Hey guys! I’m so, so sorry, I haven’t posted anything in a while. This review is going to be shorter than most of my other reviews because…. I’m not sure. Maybe because this is my first nonfiction book review? Anyways, lets dive into today’s review.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Whitney Stewart is a children’s book author, meditation teacher, and an adventurer. She has traveled to Tibet, Nepal, and India and teaches mindfulness at Tulane University and to children and teens.
BOOK SUMMARY:
This book is about Meditation and Mindfulness, as you can probably tell from the title. Meditation is about practicing how to be aware. It helps you have a clear mind and be emotionally calm. It helps you experiment with meditation through different types. There is guided meditation. There are things that you do physically like breathing in and out, and there are things you do mentally, like clearing your mind. It tells you the history of meditation. But there are people who don’t want to do meditation, so they can be mindful without doing meditation. Mindfulness is not all about meditation. You can eat, sleep, move, talk, and relax mindfully. This book covers all of those topics and more! It talks about the happiest person in the world: Matthieu Ricard. He was born and raised in France. But he left everything behind and became a Buddhist monk. He practiced meditation for many years. And when scientists measured the electric impulses in his brain while he meditated, “the level of gamma rays were off the charts.” Everyone has to deal with their emotions at one point or another. Everyone needs way to deal with their emotions. This book is a way you can fine “inner balance.” It teaches you to question the negative thoughts in your head, to go easy on yourself, and accept that you can’t control everything. It teaches you how to relax. Anyone can learn how to do meditation.
MY THOUGHTS:
This book was ok. But this review may be a LITTLE biased because I don’t like really books that are like guided books and history books. But I bet people who love that kind of book would really enjoy this book. The book has some basic knowledge, so you probably know most of the things.
It’s a good intro to mindfulness. I would recommend this book to people who want to read books about mindfulness and want to learn mindfulness. I would give this book a 2 out of 5 stars.
