What up peoples? So I know, I was supposed to post smth on Valentines Day but I forgot with school and stuff happening TwT. But I am back with another book.
When a high school basketball star goes missing, a town’s secrets are exposed in this edge-of-your seat, addictive read.
At 8:53 pm, thousands of people watched as Jake Foster secured the state title for his basketball team with his signature fadeaway. But by the next morning, he’s disappeared without a trace. Nobody has any idea where he is: not his best friend who knows him better than anyone else, not his ex-girlfriend who may still have feelings for him, not even his little brother who never expected Jake to abandon him. Rumors abound regarding Jake’s whereabouts. Was he abducted? Did he run away to try to take his game to the next level? Or is it something else, something darker—something they should have seen coming?
Told from the points of view of those closest to Jake, this gripping, suspenseful novel reminds us that the people we think we know best are sometimes hiding the most painful secrets.

One thing I loved about this book? The ending is….extremely unexpected. Like I did not see that coming. Like usually, when I read mysteries, my mind is coming up with crazy ideas but this? Nah. I did not see it coming. So I guess that’s what makes this book a great a mystery book. But I kid you not. I cried reading this book. I’m not even joking. And I’ve read this book many times. And I cry every time. And usually I dont read Author’s Notes in books. But for this one. I did. I suggest that if you do read the book, give the Author’s Note a shot too.
I don’t think I can say much without giving it away. But this book tackles a problem thousands of people go through. And this problem is being fought by many smart people but it’s not gonna go away anytime soon, sadly. And it affects EVERYONE. Doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, old or young, live in an urban or rural place etc etc. We all face the monster of Not Enough. And they have to find a way to dull the teeth of the monster. And they get shamed for trying to stop the pain and end up having to go through it alone. I wanna quote a part of the Author’s Note:
“So even though writers are not supposed to be obvious about the message within a novel, I want to state it here, for any reader who needs it:
You are enough.
Your worth doesn’t come from the court, or your paycheck, or your number of likes or followers or whatever society seems to be telling you is important. It comes from the beating, bleeding heart inside you. Head, Hands, Heart. That’s it.”
Now you guys may have an idea what this book is about, or maybe you don’t. But I think y’all should give the book a read. I give it a 10/10. One last hint for what this book is about:
