Hey guys! So, I just finished Reckless, and it was pretty good. I actually don’t think Powerless was as good as this. The ending for this book was much more…cliffhanger-y than Powerless.
After surviving the Purging Trials, Ordinary-born Paedyn Gray has sparked a revolution, killing the King and triggering a growing Resistance. But now she’s on the run, and the one person she had hoped would stand beside her is now her hunter.
Kai Azer, newly named Enforcer and loyal to his brother Kitt (the new king), is determined to bring Paedyn to justice. But as their paths collide in the treacherous city of Dor, where the power balance between Elite and Ordinary no longer holds, duty and desire clash in deadly ways.
For the people who have not read Powerless, let me give you a quick recap/intro. Picture this, if you will. The land of Ilya. A land of only people that
So, the people who read Powerless know that Adena was killed by Blair, Paedyn killed the king, betrayed Kitt and Kai, and fled. Kitt’s turning into his father (no not literally). He’s become just as cold and hard as his father once was. Kai is not just Kitt’s brother now but his Enforcer as well. And Paedyn’s a fugitive.
We had alternating POV’s as usual-Kai, Paedyn, even Kitt (which I really liked). I was a bit nervous for this book because I had heard that it didn’t really end well. I dunno what people were talking about because the ending was very….dramatic? In a way, yeah! But to be honest, the plot drags. A lot. It’s always run, travel, get caught, repeat. Not much happened. Nothing of much importance, I think. There were a few bits and pieces that were really important. And with the characters, I had high expectations. Maybe a bit to high lol? But even though the emotional stakes in this book were high, the characters didn’t really change. Only difference is that Paedyn and Kai are accepting that they love each other (though that mainly happens at the end of the book) and Kitt is kind of fluctuating. Like he starts off as a cold, hard king. Maybe a little crazy. Loves Illya. Wants to please his dad. Now, at the end he still a king (a bit cold and hard to his subjects maybe?), he’s not AS crazy (though it’s rather debatable seeing what happens at the end of the book), he still loves Illya, and now he doesn’t want to please his dad AS MUCH.
So basically, Reckless is a classic ‘that one second book of the series’. It’s more like it’s leading to something. Not much happens. but if it following the cliches of trilogies then the third book is going to be Explosive and this book kinda just laid the groundwork and stuff. It set us up for book 3 and I’d say that if you liked Powerless, read this book. It’s not as good as Powerless but it is kinda giving us more on the characters. There’s not as much…pizzazz but it’s still pretty good. It’s setting up for the pizzazz in book 3.
