In this third book of the USA Today and #1 New York Times mega-bestselling They Both Die at the End series, two strangers—each with their own complicated relationship to Death-Cast—help each other learn to live.
Paz Dario stays up every night, waiting for the Death-Cast call that would mean he doesn’t have to keep faking his way through this lonely life. After a devastating day, Paz decides he’s done waiting around for Death-Cast. If they say he’s not dying, he’ll just have to prove them wrong. But right before Paz can die, a boy saves his life.
Alano Rosa is heir to the Death-Cast empire that encourages everyone to live their best lives, but he doesn’t feel in control of his own existence thanks to his father. And with a violent organization called the Death Guard threatening Alano, his End Day might be closer than he thinks. It’s time to live.
Fate brings Paz and Alano together, but it’s now up to the boys to survive the tragic trials ahead so no one dies at the end.
This book contains themes that some readers may find difficult.

I’ve been in love with this whole universe for a hot minute now. But this book is different than the others. Maybe because none of the main 2 characters die in this one (thank god). But just because they don’t die, doesn’t mean it isn’t heartbreaking. The ending was just so shocking like i need the next book to come out right now (but sadly it comes out on January 1st next year. And the title’s so eerie: No One Knows Who Dies At The End).
i‘m glad the romance developed so slowly. it fit the characters and their current state of mind perfectly. otherwise i would have been afraid of something like a co-dependent relationship forming. And if they like fell in love too quickly, it would have felt, like, trauma bonding or something. But this romance was at a pretty good pace. And it’s just so…njdbyuyguyedw how they became each others’ reason to stay alive.
Some hearts don’t count the days-
they just count who’s in them. 💫
i loved the little references to the previous books (orion‘s book, lydia, mattheo‘s dad). made my heart break (in a good way sometimes?). But also, I kind of hated Orion in this book. From Paz’s POV, I could see that Orion was being really stupid and annoying and stuff. Like, Orion knew how much Paz needed this role like the other guy (his name was like brody or something) did not need this role as much. Like why is the role given to him?? Paz was so much better at acting than him. Like, what?
“𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣‘𝙩 𝙪𝙨𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙, 𝙄‘𝙢 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚.”

i hurt with him while reading this. i enjoyed his chapters the most because i feel like his character has so much detail. being in his head was unsettlingly relatable and reading about his thoughts made me so sad i almost cried several times.
Sometimes the scariest call
is the one that never comes 🎇
what happened to the innocent, starry-eyed kid? he deserved so much better. i really hoped at the end of “the first to die at the end“ he‘d be getting more of a happy ending. but i guess then we wouldn‘t have gotten this book.
𝘼𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙨 𝙪𝙥 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙨𝙠𝙮. “𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙨… 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣.“
“𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚? 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨?“
𝘼𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙨 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙜𝙖𝙯𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚. “𝙋𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙮.“

for most of the book, i thought of him as the optimistic dreamer who carries enough love and hope for the world in his heart to save a boy from jumping to death. but at some point, it becomes clear that he, of course, has his own trauma and struggles too.
he‘s not some holy savior. he‘s just as haunted as paz. i‘m so glad they got each other to heal. Also, I like how at the beginning he’s the one who’s calm, composed and Paz is the suicidal mess. and then at the end its swapped. Because Alano finally loses his cool and Paz now has something to live for. I like how Paz managed to talk Alano off the edge of the room (or should I say: Paz talked Alano off the edge by confessing how much he loves Alano and then kisses him. *cough*)
Some days you live for the ending.
Some days you live for the next hello ✨
I loved how Paz went from referring to the days when he didnt get an end day call “Not-End Days” to calling them “Begin Days”. my heart broke over and over again for those too. the ending was soo mean. i cannot wait for the next book to come out and rip my heart out once more. Because, like I need to know what Alano meant. What does he mean, he knows the secret of death cast and that he’s a “murderer” (iykyk). Anyways, that’s it for this review. See y’all in the next one ✨ 🧍♀️🤸♀️🧍♀️ ✨
