A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER

By: Holly Jackson

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Holly Jackson grew up in Buckinghamshire, England and wrote her first novel when she was 15 years old. Later, she attended the University of Nottingham, where she first studied literary linguistics and creative writing, graduating with a first class degree, then graduating with a master’s degree in English.

BOOK SUMMARY:

Popular high school senior Andie Bell was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then kills himself. It’s been 5 years since it happened. Now Pip, a high school senior, is going to investigate this murder mystery for her final capstone project. She starts off by interviewing Ravi Singh, Sal’s younger brother. But after interviewing a few more people, Pip started finding holes in the story. And then the notes came. They told her to stop researching. Who was trying to stop Pip from diving into the secrets for the Andie Bell/Sal Singh case. And at the end of it 4 people are put in jail. And Pip is a national sensation.

MY THOUGHTS:

This book is the BEST book I have EVER read! Hands down! I know I’ve said that for many books, but I’m serious about this one. You will not regret reading it! When I first picked it up I was wondering if I would like it or not. I decided to take it. And then when I was reading it I got so tempted to just flip to the back. But I didn’t.

WARNING! HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Holly Jackson had me guessing the whole time! I had so many different theories! BTW: Killing Barney was unnecessary! Why drown the poor dog! He did NOTHING wrong! I was so surprised that it was Elliot Ward who killed Sal. My jaw literally dropped when Elliot confessed. I mean he was like a second dad to Pip!  My theory was that Andie was killed by someone else and Sal just helped out. Like helped bury Andie. But then Ravi said that’s not like Sal. And my favorite part was the beginning when Pip said,” I was wondering if I could borrow a second of your time? Well, not only a second, we’re already way past that… Maybe a few sequential seconds, if you can spare them?” I just shut down during that because that was so… embarrassing/funny! Then at the end of the book we find out that Becca Bell, Andie’s sister, also was part of killing Andie. Like, how could she just let her own sister die. That is absolutely unacceptable! Then Becca just casually says that Andie is in a septic tank, my heart started racing. And I was suspicious of the tea that Becca made too. What if she poisoned it  or something? And when Pip started feeling weird, Becca said that she put a little something (you didn’t think I’d tell you the important part that easily, did you?) in Pip’s drink. I was right! And it turns out that she was sent to the hospital and had to have it pumped out of her stomach. Wow! Sounds pretty serious. I’m also glad Max is on trial now. I’m sorry I mean Nancy Tangotits.😑 (That’s his fake name.) I just hope the jury agrees that Max is guilty. They have to! I mean considering what he did… he should go to jail for a lifetime. I mean… he’s the reason Becca ‘killed’ Andie. I put ‘killed’ in quotes because, technically, Andie choked on her vomit (Gross!). BUT! Becca let Andie die! She should have at least tried to save her. But instead… Becca put Andie in a septic tank. (How did she even get that?) But her plan to put the tank in the old farm was brilliant. No one would have looked there. And no one did! But this book’s name does NOT suit the story. It’s not like Pip is going to kill someone. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery, unpredictable results, and suspense!

IS THERE A SEQUEL?:

Yes, there is a sequel. I listed them below. I even put their summaries.  I hope you enjoy these books! Happy reading!

Pip’s friend Connor has come to her with a case, his brother has gone missing. But ever since last year’s case, she promised herself to not investigate anymore after nearly getting killed several times and losing her dog. But more time passes, and the chances of Jamie not coming back are becoming more likely by the minute. The police won’t do anything about it, so Pip begins to realize Jamie might be in serious trouble.

  • As Good As Dead

Who will look for you when you’re the one that disappears? An anonymous person asks her the same question, constantly, all the time. Pip first assumes it is a stalker, but begins to realize that the threat is moving closer and closer towards her home. The police won’t look into it, and this time, the case might not be something she’s investigating to save others. This time it’s to save herself, maybe from a dangerous serial killer.

If you haven’t read my previous book, Mindfulness and Meditation: Handling Life with a Calm and Focused Mind , read it here.

Fun Fact: There are 2 versions of this book. An US version and an UK version. The US version takes place in Fairview, Connecticut, but the UK version takes place in  Little Kilton, Buckinghamshire.
